Kids cooking lessons

Junior chef aged 8 - 16, our 4 hat cooking lessons will set your kids up for life! 

Classes start again on the 30th January 2017 - Limmited spaces, book fast!

This Adelaide Junior chefs cooking program is ideal to build kids confidence in the kitchen and gain one of the most important skills for living a healthy life. Cooking healthy nutritious food from scratch!

  • Your kids will learn to shop and cook with a professional chef

Imagine the meals your kids will be able to cook for you! Junior chef cooking classes are for kids aged 8 - 16 years of age

  • Junior chef cooking classes are for kids - aged 8 - 16 and run 9.30 - 11.30 am,every Saturday in the school terms for the full year
  • No term booking required in 2017
  • It only $37 for junior chefs per class - inclusive of ingredients, shopping and the meal
  • Term bookings are essential (from term 1 in 2018) - be quick mums, limited to 24 spaces per classes
  • Program does not run in school holidays - School holiday fun program click here
  • There are no rain checks for missed lessons, however the recipes will be provided for catchup at home

The 4 hat kids stepped cooking program has been specifically designed by our HOMEFRESH 

 chefs to educate kids in shopping, prepping and cooking healthy nutritious food from scratch! 

 Beginners - Red - 1st Hat (4 terms or set skill level in a calander year for both age backets)

  • Cooking easy and quick recipes that require minimal skills
  • Shopping to select fresh, healthy and nutritious foods
  • Chopping and knife handling skills
  • Kitchen equipment care
  • Food safety and hygiene
  • Each term will cover all five Homefresh cuisines
  • Relax and enjoy your food creation

Learners - Blue - 2nd Hat (4 terms or set skill level in a calander year for both age backets)

  • Cooking additional recipes that require a little less supervision
  • Stocking your pantry and focusing on the importance of being prepared
  • Stocking your fridge with seasonal produce to gain the maximum nutritional value
  • Stocking your freezer to ensure you are always prepared, to cook from scratch
  • Chopping and knife handling skills
  • Each term will cover all five Homefresh cuisines
  • Relax and enjoy your food creation

Intermediate - Black - 3rd Hat (4 terms or set skill level in a calander year for both age backets)

  • Cooking additional recipes that require your taste buds influence
  • Identify various herbs and spices and how they make up different cuisines
  • Identify various fruit and vegetables and explore making food and drinks
  • Shopping for seasonal vegetables to save money and time
  • Chopping and knife handling skills
  • Each term will cover all five Homefresh cuisines
  • Relax and enjoy your food creation

Advanced - White - 4th Hat (4 terms or set skill level in a calander year for both age backets)

  • Cook advanced recipes that focus on pan, oven temperature and setting selections
  • Learning various baking techniques
  • Learn the art of various frying styles
  • Leaning to cook exquisite variations of core signature dishes 
  • Chopping and knife handling skills
  • Each term will cover all five Homefresh cuisines
  • Relax and enjoy your food creation

 On completion of the kids 4th hat - they will have the skills to

  • Cook complex recipes and perfect them for graduation lunch
  • Bring all of their chefs skills to the table 
  • Design and cook their own signature dishes 
  • Cook confidently across all five Homefresh cuisines and more

On completion of each 4 hat tuition

  • Kids will be assessed, by our chef
  • If they have reached the appropriate skill level, they will be presented with their coloured chef’s hat (free)

Graduation lunch and dinner each hat (each year)

  • On completion of all 4 years, kids will choose their best dishes to cook on graduation day or night. 
  • Supervised but unassisted by our chef, they will shop, prep, cook and present their food creation, to their parents/carers on our special graduation event
  • Parents/carers and the Homefresh Chef, will rate the dishes on taste, presentation and timing.
  • Attending mums, dads and carers lunch or dinner is provided free, chefs class on this occasion will also be free

What next?

  • Homefresh goal is to have every child leave school with advanced chef skills for life
  • Once the kids have graduated and completed the 4 Hat junior and advanced chef program, they can then proceed to a chef program if they wish to learn more, they can spend 1 more year (or less), meeting many of the standards of a 4 year chef. 
  • The best Junior chefs have a unique opportunity to work in smaller groups with our master chefs, these classes are $57 per child and our mission here is to turn out elite chefs and prepare them to enter the hospitality future awaiting them or participate in our planned TV productions and our very own YouTube channel (please ask us about this unique opportunity)

Term 1: 1 February - 15 April
Term 2:  2 May - 8 July
Term 3: 25 July - 30 September
Term 4: 17 October - 16 December
